It has been several years since I was able to have a conversation with my mother and mother in law but their faces and voices are engrained in my memory. My mother passed away in 2012 the same year that my stepson did, a few months later. My mother in law passed away in 2016 a few months before my youngest grandchild was born in that same year. My mother, Marie and mother in law Jean experienced life very differently. Each was strong in their own ways and I took away lessons from both of them. They met in the early 70's when my mom worked as a waitress in the restaurant my future mother in law and her husband owned. I learned resilience and strength that I needed along the way. What lessons and memories do you remember of the mothers in your life?

To kick off this 4 week series honoring Mother's Day, this one starts us off with my grandmother. I have several vivid memories of my Nana. Anna Reyda was born in Montana in 1910 on her family's farm. Her dad had wanted a son and he was tough on her. She was the original No Nonsense Nana. Many years later she moved to New Jersey and met her husband and married in 1931. They had 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters with my mother being the oldest. When I was little, I remember a few times going to see her where she worked at a local cleaners and she taught me how to make change. When she took me to church, we would stop at the corner bakery around the street from where she lived and I would always get the crumb cake. My Nana loved to sew, crochet, and put more than a couple of sugar cubes in her coffee. She was tough when she needed to be and helped her family when she could. What do You remember of your grandmother? If she is still living, take the time to ask her LOTS of questions about her. She did have a life before you! In addition to taking notes and pictures, don't forget videos to capture her voice and personality. I use the Apple phone app, Voice Record. If she doesn't live local, do a recorded zoom. If she doesn't know how, get somehow to help her. You will be so happy that you did!!

This week's segment was a shocker to me! There are many reasons as to why family members no longer speak to each other. In today's climate it is sadly mostly about politics which is another topic all together. What I did not know was the extent of this very concerning, societal issue of parents and children being totally disconnected in the particular way that is shared today, through total disconnection for reasons claimed to be not known. It is absolutely heartbreaking! My guest, Susan Metzger tells her story of her son leaving the family 23 years ago and she still does not understand why. She recently started to talk about it and was astonished at the number of families who have told her similar stories.
My question is: "What and Why is causing this breakdown of the American family?"
Susan planned an in home get together, for what she thought would be a handful of people. She received so much interest that she had to rent a room. With even more interest from many who did not live in her town, Susan will soon be hosting a virtual event.

Through that began our friendship and Laurie's mentorship. I knew that I wanted to become an author, a storyteller and to become a part of something bigger than me. Becoming a part of the podcast world was not on my radar. However, over the years mostly due to Laurie's encouragement, the thought would pop into my heard. Laurie's patience and personality made the experience less overwhelming and enjoyable. Over the years I learned how to rescue and restore furniture that I found around the house and at garage sales. I learned from one of the best, Amy Howard. This is a tough topic that hits close to home, my home. One of my son's closest friends lost his life and entered into the arms of Jesus on March 12, 2026. Being in a military family, the loss of life is a constant concern. The outpouring of Love and Kindness was abundant for my son's friend, Capt. Seth Koval along with the other servicemen and women, who also lost their lives that day due to a tragic accident. What I did not expect but was not surprised either, were those who showed disrespect on several levels on social media and in the news. The topic of the tragic losses of life is not about politics, who is president or what the mission is. There is a time and place for that but this is not the time. This IS the time for Honor, Prayer and Respect!

The misinformation about women possibly losing their right to vote gets my Blood Boiling! Women have had to figure out to change their names for decades. This is nothing new, however it became a controversy. Some women were really outraged by it because they thought it was going to be a problem for them. Some extra paperwork yes but a controversy...no! I was outraged due to the fact that women were being told information that scared them instead of being providing facts that would calm them. I believe the focus being put on women, not being able to vote, is a distraction to the real reason and that is to take the focus off illegals voting. Do You Think this is a Big Deal or not?
